PIET KOMMERS
PhD in Hypertext, Navigation and Conceptual Representations, Piet Kommers is an honorary professor at UNESCO, a title awarded in recognition of his research work on New Media as a cognitive and social support. Piet Kommers is currently a professor in the area of Learning Technologies, in the Faculty of Behavioral Sciences, University of Twente, as well as a member of advisory councils in ministries of education and science academy in Japan, Australia, Singapore, Finland, Thailand and Russia. The researcher promoted and coordinated the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Cognitive Technologies in 1990 and a series of Joint European Research Projects. His research work is a pioneer in the cognitive and social support for communication and education through the media, approaching in his books and articles the social and intellectual transformations caused by the transition from traditional media to new media. Piet Kommers was the creator of the international magazine for web-based communities and general president of the IADIS conferences on social applications of ICT. Since the late nineties, he has given more than 40 invited and leading lectures at major conferences in the fields of education, media and communication.
