HUMANITAS COLLECTION
Humanitas by CIAC – Centre for Research in Arts and Communication, in partnership with Grácio Editor, is a collection of essays promoting the results of research produced in this centre. Our aim is to make, through the works published here, a contribution to the scientific field of humanities.
The healthy cross-over nature of CIAC research, which covers the Arts, Communication and Culture, Languages/Literature and Digital Humanities, provides the justification for presenting a collection that follows this plural spirit of reflection. This lies, in essence, in the ability to embrace man as a being who expresses himself in the most varied of ways. Humanitas finds its purpose in celebrating the return to humanistic studies, to humanities, therefore, in the primordial and broad sense that the Greeks and Romans attributed to them, as a response to the constant challenges thrown at us in the contemporary world.
As such, this collection reflects the desirable harmony between the study of new languages, new processes and methods, and the soundness of knowledge that prolongs theoretical and critical traditions. Revisiting artistic and cultural products of the past, either to (re)question them in view of the current paradigm or to (re)understand them as humanistic objects without time will, in turn, stimulate thinking about contemporary modes of artistic and cultural expression.
