Project Romanceiro.pt attracts foreign visiting researchers

Since November 2018, there are already 4 foreign researchers who carry out research stays under our project Romanceiro.pt.

Marta Urea Herrador, who prepares her PhD research at the University of Jaén (Spain), is now a visiting student in the PhD in Literature at the University of Algarve. Under the scientific supervision of Sandra Boto (CIAC / UAlg), between May and August 2019, she will stay in order to obtain a PhD with a European mention. “Marta develops a very interesting project supported by our partners in the Corpus of Oral Literature, a project based at the University of Jaén. The intensive work of collection of heritage literature carried out by Marta is of extreme interest and our support, in romanceiro.pt, is to encourage comparative studies with the Portuguese tradition, especially with regard to the Iberian ballad. We intend to offer Marta a real immersion in our archives and in the research dynamics of our group and the of the CIAC in general. ”

Prior to Marta, Ana Luisa Lauria, a PhD student at the Federal University of Bahia (Brazil), had already been at CIAC. Between November 2018 and May 2019, she advanced in the work of comparing the “encomendações das almas” (the orders of souls) in Brazil and in Portugal. Her research was supervised by Pere Ferré and she joined the romanceiro.pt team. “The work developed by Ana Luisa now continues at a distance from an ocean, but is not less intense than it was during her stay at the University of Algarve. The researcher is already considering dedicating her post-doctorate to the religious romanceiro, a work area that we consider to be a priority development in our group. The traditional romanceiro in Portuguese-language will undoubtedly win. ”

Under the partnership established with Fundación Ramón Menéndez Pidal, in February and May, respectively, we received  Nicolás Asensio Jiménez and Álvaro Piquero Rodríguez, both with an Erasmus + fellowship. These PhD students from the Complutense University of Madrid chose the CIAC for a short stay that included lectures, research seminars and work meetings with a view to the joint activities that romanceiro.pt develops with the Ramón Menéndez Pidal Foundation.
