ARTICLE BY CIAC RESEARCHERS REFERENCED BY THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION

The article “Zoom out / Zoom in to the digital social networks of the National Cinema Plan (PNC): a visioning in pandemic times”, written by CIAC researcher João Pinto, in co-authorship with Professors Teresa Cardoso (Open University) and Ana Isabel Soares (University of Algarve), was highlighted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in its “Global literature on coronavirus disease” page.

The text starts from a reflection on the growing virtualization of Western life to then focus on the presence of the National Cinema Plan (PNC) in digital social networks during the school closures, decreed in Portugal as one of the responses to the pandemic caused by COVID-19. Published in 2021 in the dossier “The contemporary seen through the screen: policies, cultures, memories and identities” of the Revista Ciências Humanas, this is the first of a trilogy of articles that intends to study the presence of the PNC on social networks during the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, during the school closure period.

The article is part of the ongoing research project on “Education, Cinema, Social Networks: a study on the National Cinema Plan”, funded by FCT (SFRH/BD/137359/2018) and hosted by CIAC, and is integrated in the work developed by the PhD student in Digital Media-Art (Open University/University of Algarve), under the scientific guidance of the co-authors.
