CENTRE FOR GALICIAN STUDIES PRESENTS THE LATEST BOOK FROM THE HESPÉRIDES COLLECTION

The Centre for Galician Studies of UAlg presented today, April 19, 2022, the book Galiza(e)m nós. Estudos para a compreensão do relacionamento cultural galego-português. The work, published in December 2021, has the collaboration of CIAC researcher María Botana Vilar as editor. The event took place at the General Secretariat for Language Policy of the Xunta de Galicia, in Compostela, and was broadcasted through the Zoom platform.

Integrated in the Hespérides Collection, this publication is a collection of works that aims to give space and visibility to authors and texts of the Portuguese Academy on different aspects of Galicia. This is the first joint initiative of the Centre for Galician Studies at the University of Minho, the University of Algarve and the New University of Lisbon.

Compiling twelve studies from different academic areas, Galicia e(m) nós. Estudos para a compreensão do relacionamento cultural galego-português addresses the Galician-Portuguese subject matter, with the aim of contributing to the reflection of the polyhedral reality that Galicia and Portugal represent. The book is organized by thematic frameworks, which analyse, for example, the political and ecclesiastical relations in the peninsular northwest; the presence of Galician immigrants in northern Portugal in the Modern Age; the perceptions of the Portuguese world in Galicia; the legends of the Moors in the oral tradition of Portugal and Galicia; and the anthropological perspectives between past, present and future.
