COLLOQUIUM

CIAC WAS PRESENT AT THE COMMEMORATIONS ON NAVY DAY

On May 20th, 2022, the University of Algarve celebrated the Navy Day, with the colloquium The Sea: Traditions and Challenges. The event took place in the Green Auditorium (building 8), at the Gambelas Campus, and counted with the presence of CIAC researchers Pedro Ferré and Manuel Célio Conceição, in the panel “The Sea: Traditions – a cultural vision”.

This scientific meeting served to broaden the debate around the knowledge of the Sea and disclose the importance of the various Seas throughout time. With the participation of several teachers and researchers from the University of Algarve, the communications focused on the various dimensions of the Maritime, in order to understand the past and present, and to look ahead to the future.

The Navy Day is celebrated on May 20th, in honor of the great achievement of Vasco da Gama who, on this day in 1498, for the first time in history, connected Europe to the East by sea, with the arrival in Calicut, India.
