COMMUNICATION SCIENCES SEMINARS
ESEC AND CIAC HOST SEMINAR ON PHOTOJOURNALISM
On April 11, 2023, at 7:30 PM, the Higher School of Education and Communication (ESEC) at the University of Algarve and CIAC will host a seminar featuring photojournalist António Cossa. Organized within the framework of the Photojournalism course in the Master’s in Communication and Digital Media program, the session will be moderated by Professor Joana Palminha and will take place in Room 31 at ESEC.
Guest speaker António Cossa holds degrees in documentary photography, literary journalism, and cinematography. In 2002, he initiated his first photographic project, “Tribo Makonde,” and worked for several years as a freelancer for Mozambican and international media, as well as various NGOs (such as UNICEF and the British Council). Throughout his career, he has photographed in war zones, humanitarian disasters, and the lives of people victimized by injustice or marginalized. He has exhibited his work in galleries and museums worldwide and has captured images of figures such as Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama, Robert Mugabe, Meryl Streep, B.B. King, Steven Spielberg, and Václav Havel.
The Series Communication Sciences Seminars is an initiative that has been developing in recent years in collaboration with professionals and the community. The sessions are organized by researchers from the Communication Sciences working group at CIAC, who are also faculty members in the undergraduate Communication Sciences program and the Master’s in Communication and Digital Media program at ESEC-UAlg.
Throughout the academic year 2022-23, topics related to the areas covered by the working group, from journalism to strategic communication, media analysis and production to media literacy, will be addressed.
