RESEARCHER FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF GOTHEMBURG PRESENTS SEMINAR ON  PLACE/DESTINATION BRANDING

The next edition of the Communication Sciences Seminar will discuss the theme “Place/Destination Branding research” with Professor Doctor Emma Björner, Researcher and Interim Director, Gothenburg Research Institute, School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg.

The seminar, initially scheduled for December 4, has been postponed to January 4, 2024, from 8:00 to 9:00 PM, in an online format. It takes place within the scope of the “Research and Extension Seminars” course of the Master’s in Digital Communication and Media.

Dr. Emma Björner is Researcher and Interim Director at Gothenburg Research Institute (GRI), the School of Business Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg. She is also Senior Expert at the International Organisation for Knowledge Economy and Enterprise Development (IKED).

As a Researcher at GRI, Emma works in three research projects. In the project The Role of Tourism in Multicultural Societies (TiMS) she studies sustainable tourism and how the plurality of places and destinations is communicated, represented and experienced. In two other research projects the focus is on local food systems, entrepreneurship and urban-rural development.

At the University of Gothenburg, Emma is a member of the Centre for Consumption Research, the Centre for Tourism, and the research programme Managing Big Cities. As a Senior Expert at IKED she works two EU projects: URBiNAT and EUMEPLAT. In URBiNAT Emma’s focus is on citizen engagement, participatory processes, digital communication and policy recommendations. In EUMEPLAT, Emma primarily focuses on representation of migration and gender in the Swedish and European media landscape.

Emma earned her PhD in Business Administration and Marketing from Stockholm Business School, Stockholm University. Her research centres on marketing, place branding, place development, sustainability, tourism, entrepreneurship and local food systems.

The Communication Sciences Seminars are an initiative that has been developing in recent years, in connection with professionals and the community. The sessions are promoted by the researchers of CIAC’s Research Group on Communication Sciences, professors in The Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Master’s Degree in Communication and Digital Media of ESEC-UAlg.
