CIAC TRANSMITS CONFERENCE CYCLE ABOUT THE ALMA PROJECT ON YOUTUBE CHANNEL

On 25th March 2022, at 6pm (Lisbon time), the ALMA project – Anthropophagy, Literature, Modernism and Audiovisual – promotes the first conference of a cycle dedicated to anthropophagic thought. The conference cycle will take place between March and November 2022, in online format and transmited on CIAC’s Youtube channel.

Moderated by Daniel Laks (UFSCar), the opening conference “Anthropophagies beyond Brazilianness” counts with the intervention of Angolan writer, poet and journalist João Melo. Founding member of the Angolan Writers’ Union, João Melo has published over twenty books in different literary genres (poetry, short stories, essays), in countries such as Portugal, Cuba and Brazil. His poetry deals with the Angolan historical process.

The conference cycle will bring together writers, filmmakers, artists and academics from Brazil, Portugal and Angola to debate themes related to the colonial process, the emergence of an indigenous voice in the contemporary audiovisual and the impact of the modernist experience in different territories. The aim is to reflect on the idea of anthropophagy as a key to understanding contemporary themes that transcend questions of national identity and refer to the cultural relations between Portugal and its former colonies, Brazil and Africa.

The sessions planned are: “Fluxos migratórios e culturais na contemporaneidade” (April 29), with writer Luis Rufatto and director José Barahona; “O Moderno em Ernesto de Sousa” (May 20), with researchers Ana Isabel Soares (CIAC/UAlg) and Isabel Nogueira (University of Lisbon); “Olhares contemporâneos sobre a história” (30 September), with the director and scriptwriter Elza Cataldo and the actor, photographer and director Miguel Pinheiro; “Autoficção na obra de Leonardo Mouramateus” (28 October), with Mirian Tavares (CIAC/UAlg) and Patrícia Dourado (CIAC); and “Antropofagias tecnológicas” (25 November), with the directors Isael Maxacali and Charles Bicalho.

The ALMA project – Anthropophagy, literature, modernism and audiovisual is the result of a partnership between Labor – Laboratório de Estudos do Discurso (Federal University of São Carlos), CIAC – Centro de Investigação em Artes e Comunicação (University of Algarve), UEMG – Universidade Estadual de Minas Gerais and Polo Audiovisual da Zona da Mata. The project team is composed by Miriam Tavares and Jorge Carrega (CIAC/UAlg); César Piva (Audiovisual Pole of Zona da Mata); Vanice Sargentini, Daniel Laks, Pedro Henrique Varoni de Carvalho and Rodolfo Magalhães (UFSCar); and Cláudio Santos Rodrigues (State University of Minas Gerais).

Participation in the conference is free of charge and confers a certificate, upon registration here.
