ANA ISABEL SOARES PRESENT AT PORTO FEMME – INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

On the 1st of October, at 10pm, CIAC researcher Ana Isabel Soares will be present at Porto Femme – International Film Festival, as part of an initiative in honour of film director Margarida Gil, happening at Cinema Trindade, in Porto. The event, organized by XX Element Project – Cultural Association, aims to combat the under-representation of women in cinema.

In this tribute initiative, Ana Isabel Soares will moderate the conversation with Margarida Gil, after showing Relação fiel e verdadeira [True and Faithful Relationship]. This is a film by the director that is based on a script adapted to the present time from a XVII century story. A look at the traditional roles of men and women in the anachronism of an extremely violent matrimonial relationship. A disturbing reflection on the relationships of affection dominated by the power of domination and submission, an unavoidable theme in Margarida Gil’s work.

One of the great projects of the XX Element Project – Cultural Association is the annual Porto Femme – International Women’s Film Festival, as well as the organization of film cycles dedicated to the vision of women. Through cinema we intend to educate and inform the public about social and political issues that affect women around the world; and to give a plural voice to feminisms with an intersectional look (seeking to include the various groups and struggles).
