CENTRE FOR GALICIAN STUDIES PROMOTES LECTURE ABOUT ROSALÍA DE CASTRO
On 25th March 2022, at 15h00, the CEG – Centre for Galician Studies, df the University of Algarve, promotes the lecture “Rosalía de Castro e a idea do tempo: progreso vs. eterno retorno”[Rosalía de Castro and the idea of time: progress vs. eternal return], with María Xesús Lama López (University of Barcelona). Integrated in the 2nd edition of the lecture cycle Folerpas literarias: Palabras tecidas en feminino, the session takes place online and focuses on the legacy of the writer and poet Rosalía de Castro, founder of contemporary Galician literature.
Rosalía de Castro (1837-1885) is one of the greatest exponents of Spanish Romanticism. After a period of cultural depression in Galicia (known as the “Dark Centuries”), the publication of Cantares gallegos (1863) marked the resurgence of Galician literature. As a poet, she edited (in Galician) the poem Follas Novas (1880), which, together with Cantares gallegos, became one of the indispensable works for understanding Galician literature.
Folerpas literarias: Palabras tecidas en feminino invites experts in the field of literature to share their research and reflect on the work and figure of various writers. The lecture cycle, which began in 2021, is supported by CIAC, FCHS and the Xunta de Galicia.
