CIAC ORGANIZES LECTURE WITH LEONARDO MOURAMATEUS AND MAURO SOARES

On May 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM, CIAC is hosting a lecture on “Materialities of the Word in the Creative Processes” featuring filmmaker Leonardo Mouramateus and actor Mauro Soares. The session will take place in room 2.37 at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, at Gambelas Campus, University of Algarve. Admission is free.

In this lecture, filmmaker Leonardo Mouramateus and actor Mauro Soares will reflect on the role that words play in their creative processes, focusing particularly on the cinematic script and specific creation practices. The aim is to explore the role that words occupy in the creation of images, movements, gestures, sounds, and a vibrant dramaturgy that proposes an active word capable of fostering intersections and creative translations. The guiding question for this session is, “How do you work with words, as a filmmaker and actor, as material, for and in the creation process?”

Leonardo Mouramateus holds a Master’s degree in Multimedia Art from the University of Lisbon and graduated in Cinema and Audiovisual from the Federal University of Ceará. He maintains a continuous connection with performing arts and dramaturgy in dance. He has written and directed films showcased at numerous festivals, including Locarno, Viennale, IDFA, Cinéma du Réel, and Bafici. Retrospectives of his filmography have been presented in Portugal, France, Colombia, and most recently at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. His second feature film, “Life Is Two Days,” received an honorable mention from the jury in the international competition at FIDMarseille.

Mauro Soares began his relationship with theater as a student in the Integrated Master’s in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at NOVA School of Science and Technology in Lisbon. He starred in films such as “António Um Dois Três” (IFFR 2017), “Sol Alegria” (IFFR 2018), “Bela Mandil” (Viennale 2018), “Meio Ano-Luz” (IDFA 2021), and “Human Flowers of Flesh” (Locarno 2022). Mauro co-wrote and participated in “A Chuva Acalanta a Dor” (IFFR 2020) and “A Vida São Dois Dias” (FIDMarseille 2022), which he also produced. He is an alumnus of the Berlinale Talents Acting Studio 2019, part of the cast of “A Portuguesa” (Berlinale 2019), and the 1st Assistant Director of “O Trio em Mi Bemol” (Berlinale 2022).

Promoted by CIAC and FCT, the lecture on “Materialities of the Word in the Creative Processes” with filmmaker Leonardo Mouramateus and actor Mauro Soares is organized within the framework of the curricular unit “Transversal Materialities of Creation” in the Master’s in Creation Processes program.
