The Script Road

The “Cadavre Exquis” film-installation has its première in The script Road – Macao Literary Festival.
Bruno Mendes da Silva is one of the international guests of The script Road – Literary Festival of Macao, where he will make the opening presentation of the three possible versions of the film: the linear version, the installation-film “Cadavre Exquis Expanded”, which interacts with the viewer through body movements, and the online version, also interactive. The programming that guarantees the spectator the experience of interactivity, was assured by three specialists who collaborate in this project: António Araújo (CIAC-UAb), Juan Escribano (CIAC) ) and Fatih Kan (ISE – UAlg).
With a surrealistic inspiration, Cadavre Exquis is a project that follows the first experience Os Caminhos que se bifurcam and seeks the subversion of filmic discourse through the fractionation of space-time unity.
Three characters are in the same room, immobile, crystallized in time. What are they doing there? How did they end up there? In “Cadavre Exquis Expanded”, to discover the answers, the viewer has the possibility to approach or move away from each character, being able to select them. In the linear version the choices are made in an autonomous way that pretends to simulate the potential choices of the spectator. Each choice results in an analepse until the crystallization. When he choose the last character, the viewer will unfreeze the opening scene, setting it in motion.
For this project, 3 screenwriters were invited, each one was assigned a character, the authors having full creative freedom in the construction of the Analepses. One of these scripts, as well as the corresponding voice-off, was in charge of Vítor Reia-Batista, whom the film honors.
Founded in 2012 in the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR), the Literary Festival began as the first and largest gathering of literati from China and Portuguese-speaking countries ever organized in the world. In recent years, the Festival has gained notoriety, becoming an international event that welcomes writers, editors, translators, journalists, musicians, filmmakers and artists from different geographies and nationalities. This year, the Festival runs from the 15th to the 24th March.
