CIAC CO-ORGANIZES WORKSHOP ON PHOTOGRAPHY AND SELF-REPRESENTATION

On 14 and 15 April 2023,  Project SPECULUM, LABCOM-UBI and CIAC-UAlg promote the workshop PLAYING with MYSELF: photography and self-representation, with photographer Claudia Clemente. The session takes place between 10h00 and 17h30 in the conference room of the library of the University of Algarve, Campus Gambelas. Registration for the workshop is free but mandatory (until 11 April) via secretaria.ualg@ciac.pt.

This initiative is part of the exhibition PLAYING WITH MYSELF (2010-2023), which will be on display at the University of Algarve Library, Campus Gambelas, until 28 April 2023. PLAYING WITH MYSELF is a photographic exhibition by Cláudia Clemente, consisting of a series of satirical self-representations that revisits characters from the collective imaginary in a set of apparently simple performances that make us dive into the territory of introspection to allow us to look at multiple possible versions of ourselves reflected in the mirror.

Claudia Clemente divides her work between writing, photography and directing; and between fiction and documentaries. She graduated in Architecture at FAUP, in 1995; studied Script Writing for Feature Films at Gulbenkian/London Film School in 2006; and took a Film Course at Restart, in 2007. She published her first book of short stories The black notebook, in 2003, with Publisher Tinta Permanente; and the second The night factory, with Ulysseia Publishing, in 2010. Her play “Londres” won the Grand Award of Theater S. P. A./Teatro Aberto 2011 and was published by the National Press Casa da Moeda. Clemente published the novel The Blue House in 2014, followed by the photography book Playing with Myself, the short stories book Black and White, Another Day in Neverland and Sonata for Oblivion, and the biography Light Tattoos. She directed 7 Short Films, 2 documentaries and 4 Telefilms. Claudia was responsible for the scripts, storyboards, directing, art direction, editing and (in most cases) production of her films, which have been exhibited in Portugal, Brazil, Uruguay, India, Cuba and Italy, and received awards in various festivals.
