Cartographya

Cartographya

Cartographya was written in the scope of the Lit&Tour Research Group and combines a bilingual compilation of Salvador Santos’ poems about the Algarve, arranged as an itinerary/ literary route.

Salvador Santos, traveller-poet, introduces readers to his poetic self who draws the Algarve’s map. In this book, one can observe a genuine revisiting of a territory that, although not vast, is heterogeneous both in its physical geography (composed of mountains, ‘barrocal’ and coastline) as well as its human geography—in the unavoidable distinction between people of the mountains, people of the sea, people of the countryside, people of the city, and visitors (travelers and tourists).

Cartographya takes the reader on a path to explore the Algarve: setting off from Alcoutim and heading to Sagres. This ‘book of landscapes’ is a precious contribution to the construction of a literary cartography of the region. The collection of texts is the result of an extreme sensibility of the poetic self to his surroundings—nature, objects, people, movements, the soul of each element of space that isolates, creating unique places.
