[The Conservatory Theatre School (1839-1901) Contribution to a History of the Lisbon Conservatory]
This is the first book to be written about the Lisbon Conservatory Theatre School. The work, aimed at gleaning and recovering information, puts forward a flexible methodological approach, enabling a focus on small events, on “small stories” and memories, while pursuing a central aim: to give visibility to the teaching of theatre in Portugal in the 19th century, a historic period inhabited by women and men whose glory, which, if and when they enjoyed it, appeared in the footnotes of newspapers or Histories of Literature, but which, in actual fact, rightly belongs to a History of the Theatre, the contours and canons of which require urgent reconfiguration.
