AUDIOVISUAL PERFORMANCE

PERFORMANCE ‘MAGNIFICATIO ALGARVENSIS’, BY CIAC RESEARCHERS, IS EXHIBITED IN LOULÉ
Magnificatio Algarvensis, a performance conceived by ‘Coletivo Algarve – Art Lab’, composed of CIAC researchers and artists Pedro Alves da Veiga, Rui Travasso and Vasco Ramalho, and artists Rui d’Orey and Luís Marques, will be exhibited at the opening day of Festival Som Riscado. The event takes place at Cineteatro Louletano on 23 November, at 18h. On the 22nd, two sessions will be held for school communities.
The performance is themed around the Geoparque Algarvensis and settles on a dialogue between two instrumentists – a clarinet and a percussion player – and a computer component manipulated live by two performers, from two perspectives, the sound and the visual approach. The sound approach and its textures have a generative nature through AI systems, and the performers’ movements will influence the textures created through visual art, which is also generative. In this way, they will create textures on the various Geological Sites, with a performance that promises interactivity and multidisciplinary.
The Geopark Algarvensis – Loulé-Silves-Albufeira – showcases the geological diversity and unique landscapes of the area shared by the three municipalities. The territory has a geological history that tells the birth of mountain ranges and ancient seas, shaped by natural processes over millions of years. Its features include rock formations, fossil sites, caves, cliffs, cultural heritage, and biodiversity that not only are of great scientific, cultural, and educational value, but also provide a multitude of sensory stimuli.
Magnificatio Algarvensis is inspired by the Geopark Algarvensis, through its many facets. It consists of a transdisciplinary performance in which instrumental music and generative visuals communicate through the mediation of digital technologies, enhancing the traditional acoustic capabilities of a marimba and a clarinet. Thus, the convergence of these vectors – musical performance, digital augmentation, and responsive generative visuals – is used to take the audience on a magnificent sensorial journey.
The performance is also part of the 11th International Conference on Digital and Interactive Arts (ARTECH 2023) and will be presented on the 29th of November at 18h. More information here.
