CALL FOR PAPERS FOR ROTURA JOURNAL TO BE RUNNING BETWEEN 15TH JULY AND 30TH SEPTEMBER

The period for submitting articles for the third issue of CIAC’s Rotura – Revista de Comunicação, Cultura e Artes [Rotura – Journal of Communication, Culture and Arts], officially opens on 15th July and runs until 30th September 2021. Under the theme “Journalism and Media Literacy”, the thematic dossier intends to contribute to the dissemination of research and intervention in the field of media literacy.

The call for papers launched by Rotura journal accepts original articles that address the following topics: journalism and professional practices in the digital context; media access and online information consumption; projects, actions and tools for media literacy development; quality practices in the field of information media; and media literacy in the development of citizenship and democracy. Articles can be written in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.

The current forms of dissemination and consumption of information, and misinformation, have highlighted the importance of media literacy and brought together researchers and professionals around this issue. Facing the diversity of sources of information, at the same time as traditional journalistic practices are being challenged, new tools to promote literacy are being sought, either through the explicitness of these practices, through fact checking operations, or through the creation of independent news media, taking advantage of digital technologies.

The initiatives developed in the journalistic scope complement the work carried out in the educational scope and there are numerous cases of valorisation of the quality of information. The research in the field of media literacy has been consolidating mainly in educational contexts and constitutes an important goal in the policies promoted by institutions such as the European Union and UNESCO.
