CIAC WEBINARS ARE BACK WITH GUEST SPEAKER JOSÉ MANUEL SIMÕES

On September 26 2022, at 9 am, CIAC promotes the webinar “Análise à imprensa de Macau” [Analysis of Macau’s press], with José Manuel Simões (Saint Joseph University, Macau).

CIAC Webinars 11th edition reflects on the virtues and constraints of Macau’s media system. Macau is a territory marked by great multiculturalism, where different communities cohabit; this makes up for a very particular media system: the media– newspapers, radio, and TV stations– broadcasts in Chinese, Portuguese, and English.

Analyzing Macau’s Press in three languages, José Manuel Simões addresses the fundamental issues of news activities in Macau and shares his understanding of the perspective of journalists and media outlets regarding power.

José Manuel Simões is an Associate Professor, Director of the Department “Media, Art and Technology” and Coordinator of the Department “Communication and Media” since 2009, at Saint Joseph University (USJ), Macau-China. He holds a postdoctoral degree in Communication Sciences from Universidade Católica Portuguesa;  Summa Cum Laude in “Global Studies”, at USJ; Master in Communication and Journalism, at the University of Coimbra; degree in International Journalism, at the Escola Superior de Jornalismo do Porto (where he taught for 7 years). He has published numerous academic papers and journalistic articles; has given lectures and conferences in Portugal, Brazil, China, Thailand, Japan, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, Russia, Switzerland, and England. Besides that, José Manuel Simões has published 11 books; his most recent academic book is “Multicultural Journalism in Portuguese – A Case Study in Macau”, based on his post-doctorate thesis on the phenomena of social communication.
