On 9 December 2022, at 10h30, CIAC and the Higher School of Education and Communication (ESTEC- UAlg) promote a seminar with Olympic Athlete Ana Cabecinha. The event is organized within the scope of the discipline of Sports Communication as part of the Communication Sciences Degree. The session will be moderated by Prof. Joana Palminha and takes place in ESEC’s room 95.

The guest speaker Ana Cabecinha has been practicing athletics since 1996 and is one of the most significant national references in race walking. She began competing at a high level in 1998 and three years later was already representing Portugal at the World Junior Championships in Hungary (finishing in 10th place). In the following years, she won 12th place at the World Junior Championships and her got her first international medal: bronze at the European Junior Championships in Finland. She was the national champion several times, breaking many records. In 2008, she qualified for the Beijing Olympics (winning 8th place and setting a national record). She took part in three Olympics: London 2012 (7th place), Rio 2016 (6th place), and Tokyo 2020 (20th place, in a particularly challenging year). She is a two-time Ibero-American champion and has participated in six world championships and four senior European championships—always with good results.

The Communication Sciences Seminars are a CIAC initiative that connects professionals and the community. The sessions are promoted by CIAC’s Research Group on Communication Sciences, professors of the Communication Sciences Degree and the Master’s Degree in Communication and Digital Media of ESEC-UAlg.

Throughout the school year 2022-23, the seminars will address topics related to the theme of the research group, ranging from journalism to strategic communication, from media analysis and production to media literacy.
