COMMUNICATION SCIENCES SEMINAR INVITES ÁLVARO DIAS TO SPEAK ON SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS

The upcoming Communication Sciences Seminar, focusing on “Work and Scientific Publications”, will feature guest speaker Professor Álvaro Dias from ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.

The event, scheduled for 8:00 PM in an online format, is part of the Seminar on Research and Extension Curricular Unit within the master’s program in Communication and Digital Media.

With a tenure in academia since 1995, Professor Álvaro Dias specializes in teaching Tourism, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship. His consulting experience spans various entities, including the Ministry of Economy, IAPMEI, AIP, AEP, AERLIS, GNR, ACT, CCP, Turismo de Portugal, and numerous companies.

Álvaro Dias holds two doctorates, both awarded with the distinction (cum laude): one in Management with a specialization in Marketing, and another in Tourism. In addition, he possesses a master’s degree in Strategy, an MBA, and a bachelor’s degree in Management. His expertise extends to a postgraduate degree in E-business.

Currently serving as the director of the Master’s in Hospitality and Tourism Management at ISCTE-IUL, he has also directed departments, master’s, and bachelor’s programs in prestigious institutions. Furthermore, Professor Álvaro Dias is an accomplished author with 24 books and over 150 articles published in international reference publications.

In recognition of his contributions, he received the D. Nuno Álvares Pereira Medal of Merit from the GNR in 2022. In 2021, he was honored with the research award from the Chair of Smart Tourism, jointly awarded by the Junta de Andalucía and the University of Seville.

One of his notable achievements includes the nomination of the article “Entrepreneurship role on dynamic capabilities: A longitudinal study on Brazilian and Portuguese firms”, co-authored by him, for the Best Paper Prize at the Special Conference of the Strategic Management Society in 2011.

Throughout his academic career, Professor Álvaro Dias has supervised 2 post-doctorates, 14 doctorates, and 235 master’s degrees. His international exposure as a Visiting Professor spans across countries such as Angola, Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Spain, Poland, Romania, and Finland.

The Communication Sciences Seminars are an initiative that has been developing in recent years, in connection with professionals and the community. The sessions are promoted by the researchers of CIAC’s Research Group on Communication Sciences, professors in The Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Master’s Degree in Communication and Digital Media of ESEC-UAlg.
