CIAC AT THE CONFERENCE “CINEMA, MEMORY(S) AND HERITAGE(S)
On the 16th of October, at 3pm, Faro Municipal Museum brings together scholars and collectors for the conference Cinema, Memória(s) e Patromónio(s) [Cinema, Memory(s) and Heritage(s)]. Integrated in the programming parallel to the exhibition 1907-1914: the first golden age of French cinema in the poster collection of the Museu Municipal de Faro, the conference will be attended by CIAC vice-coordinator Bruno Mendes da Silva and CIAC researcher Jorge Carrega.
The Faro Municipal Museum’s collection of film posters is one of the most prominent in its collection, with examples of French, Italian, Scandinavian and North American origin. This is the motto for the conference that aims to address issues such as the history of national cinema, the Faro collector Joaquim António Viegas and plans to enhance the film heritage.
Cinema, Memória(s) e Patromónio(s) begins with the panel “Joaquim António Viegas and the Cinema of the Origins in Portugal”, moderated by Marco Lopes (Faro Municipal Museum) and with the intervention of Fernando Rosa Dias (FBA), Adelaide Ginga (MNAC) and Jorge Carrega (CIAC/UAlg). This will be followed by the round table “Film Collection and Heritage”, moderated by Teresa Borges (Cinemateca) and the speakers Bruno Mendes da Silva (CIAC/UAlg), Victor Gonçalves (collector) and Paulo Villamariz (collector). Finally, at 5pm, it will be presented the catalog Cinema em Cartaz [Movies on Stage].
On show until January 2022, the exhibition 1907-1914: the first golden age of French cinema in the poster collection of the Museu Municipal de Faro, curated by CIAC researcher Jorge Carrega, brings together 33 rare movie posters collected in the main theaters in Lisbon and Porto by Faro artist and collector Joaquim António Viegas.
