SUSANA COSTA PROVIDES “PLAY YOUR ROLE: FIGHTING ONLINE HATE SPEECH” WORKSHOP

Susana Costa, one of the researchers of the Play Your Role project and a PhD student in Digital Media Arts, provided this morning, at the University of Algarve, the workshop “Play Your Role: fighting online hate speech”.

It was an event promoted by Escola Superior de Educação e Comunicação and CIAC, within the scope of the course Media Discourse of the Degree in Communication Sciences, which took place between 9:30am and 10:30am, in the Amphitheater 1.3, at the Pedagogical Complex of the Penha Campus.

The main aim of Play Your Role is to create spaces for dialogue, debate and raising awareness on hate speech starting from videogames, one of the activities youngsters love most. The project intends to exploit the positive potential of videogames to provide safe contexts of discussion, reinforcing and rewarding positive behavior and approaching serious topics in a playful manner, with a language that speaks directly to young people.
