EXHIBITION CURATED BY CIAC RESEARCHER JORGE CARREGA OPENS ON 31ST JULY

On 31st of July (Saturday), at 6:00pm, the Municipal Museum of Faro opens the exhibition 1907-1914: a primeira era de ouro do cinema francês na coleção de cartazes do Museu Municipal de Faro [1907-1914: the first golden age of French cinema in the poster collection of the Municipal Museum of Faro]. Curated by CIAC researcher Jorge Carrega, the exhibition aims to offer a look at gallic cinematographic production, in a period in which it reached world hegemony.

1907-1914: a primeira era de ouro do cinema francês na coleção de cartazes do Museu Municipal de Faro [1907-1914: the first golden age of French cinema in the poster collection of the Municipal Museum of Faro] brings together 33 rare cinema posters, collected in the main theaters of Lisbon and Porto by the artist and collector from Faro, Joaquim António Viegas. The posters are part of an extensive collection from the Faro Municipal Museum, which, in addition to posters of French origin, includes some Italians, Scandinavians and North Americans.

On display until 2022, this exhibition features posters from the early days of cinema by some of the greatest illustrators of this period, namely Cândido Aragonez de Faria, Georges Dolá, Maurice Lalau, Adrien Barrère, Gus Bofa and Louis Malteste. Parallel to the exhibition, a catalog of posters and a varied program of activities are expected to be launched.

This exhibition is the result of a partnership between the Municipal Museum of Faro and CIAC and has the support of the União das Freguesias de Faro, Alliance Française Algarve, Associação FARO 1540 and Filmsbytheyear.com.
