EXHIBITION
INVITRO PROJECT STARTS THE NEW SEASON OF THE EXHIBITIONS CYCLE ON 15TH SEPTEMBER WITH THE “ENTRE TECIDOS” INSTALLATION
Entre Tecidos [Between Fabrics], by CIAC artist-researcher Selma Pereira, is the first installation of the new season of the INVITRO‘s Exhibitions Cycle. The installation, curated by Adérito Fernandes-Marcos (CIAC-UAb/Artech International), will be on display at Espaço Vila Velha, in Mértola, from 15th September.
Taking traditional weaving patterns and the influence of pattern representation as a starting point, Entre Tecidos [Between Fabrics] takes a post-digital approach. The canvas is exploded, threads and ropes expand through the installation’s scenic space, which takes us back to the warps of looms and the ropes of river traditions. It is intended to provide a haptic and interactive experience for the spectator and, in this sense, he can approach the elements that make up the installation, without pre-established rules for the enjoyment of the piece.
Entre Tecidos [Between Fabrics] follows on from works developed and exhibited by the artist Selma Pereira, about the materialization of textile traditions from a post-digital perspective. Examples of this are: Demora-te (presented in 2015 at the ARTECH 2015 conference in Óbidos), Ecoações (presented in 2015 at the XVIII Bienal of Contemporary Art of Vila Nova de Cerveira), Al-Andaluz Têxtil (presented in 2017 at the XIX Bienal of Contemporary Art of Vila Nova de Cerveira).
The new season of the INVITRO’s Exhibitions Cycle will promote artefacts/installations by artists who work on local themes in the context of interactive digital media, that is, who explore and combine digital technologies in their creation processes and in the artefacts themselves.
