BOOK BY RESEARCHER CARLOS VIDAL DEMYSTIFIES THE LIFE AND WORK OF CARAVAGGIO

O acontecimento Caravaggio Carlos Vidal, will be presented to the public on 27 June 2023, at 19h00. The event takes place at Livraria Da Travessa, in Lisbon, and will be presented by artist Pedro Cabrita Reis. The publication of the book is endorsed by CIAC.

O acontecimento Caravaggio seeks to completely demystify the life and work of Caravaggio, so that the reading of his pictorial inventions is more effective. The myth gives way to a reading linked to the paintings. Throughout the four chapters that compose the volume, it is argued that the painter’s view of the world is influenced by the spirituality of the time.

Carlos Vidal is an artist, critic, and professor. Doctor by the Faculty of Fine Arts of ULisboa – with the thesis Invisuality of painting: history of an obsession (from Caravaggio to Bruce Nauman) —, Vidal teaches painting, composition, installation, themes of contemporary art and criticism.
