SÍLVIA VIEGAS REPRESENTS CIAC IN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ABOUT HERITAGES 

Between 28 and 30 June 2023, CIAC researcher Sílvia Leiria Viegas will attend the conference Past and Present – Built and Social, in Prague. Sílvia presents the communication “Media Art Spaces for Refugees: a Methodological Approach for Inclusion”, as part of the theme Community, Heritage and Identity. Intangible cultural heritage and the forces of globalization.

“Media Art Spaces for Refugees: a Methodological Approach for Inclusion” addresses the topic of the socio-spatial inclusion of African and Middle Eastern refugees in Portugal, namely their access to adequate housing spaces and proper living conditions. The researcher aims to introduce media arts and communication tools as a methodological approach potentially capable of bringing about transformation leading to such inclusion, all the while involving these refugees in transformative experiences for envisioning and building new lives.

HERITAGES: Past and Present –Built and Social presents communications on heritage from various standpoints: art and architecture historians concerned with preservation; architects and urban planners engaged with peacemaking; cultural theorists and social historians documenting objects, places, people, and events; artists working with technologies, communities, and place. It welcomes case studies that are specific and place-based, embraces theoretical frameworks that function globally, and is interested in variegated methods of research and analysis.
