HUMANITAS: NEW VOLUME

NEW VOLUME OF THE HUMANITAS COLLECTION IS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

Quality and media competence in contemporary serial fiction in Brazil and Portugal is the most recent e-book by CIAC researcher Gabriela Borges—co-authored by Daiana Sigiliano, Eutália Ramos, Lucas Vieira, Júlia Garcia, Vinícius Guida, Gustavo Furtuoso, Matheus Soares, and Nayara Zanetti. The book integrates CIAC’s Humanitas Collection and is a theoretical-methodological proposal based on creative and reflective praxis on the new forms of mediation of audiovisual communication.

Available online on the publisher’s webpage (Grácio Editor), the book results of the “study on the relations between audiovisual quality and media competence in Lusophone serial fiction (2010/2020)” carried out between 2016 and 2020. The project aims to analyze Brazilian and Portuguese series produced between 2010 and 2020 in order to discuss the interrelation between characteristics intrinsic to the creation, circulation, and aesthetic experience of the public; based on the study of audiovisual concepts of quality and media competency.

This book aims to modernize the studies on audiovisual quality, integrating the discussion on circulation and aesthetic experience in the analysis of fictional series, through a prism of media competence, from the new configurations that are present in digital culture.

This research was performed collectively, and carried out by undergraduate and graduate students within the scope of teaching, research, and extension projects of the Observatory of Audiovisual Quality.

The Humanitas Collection, currently directed by Mirian Tavares and Susana Costa, is a collection of essays that aims to expose the results of research made by CIAC. Besides, it intends to offer a contribution to the scientific field of the Humanities.
