INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM
CIAC AND UNIVERSITY OF ALGARVE HOST INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM TO MARK THE 400TH ANNIVERSARY OF MOLIÈRE’S BIRTH
On 21st and 22nd of November 2022, CIAC and the Department of Arts and Humanities of the University of Algarve host the international colloquium La fortune de Molière: répertoires, mythes et interprétations. This is an event in honor of Molière, as part of the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of his birth, which will have a second session at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, on the 25th and 26th of November. The call for papers runs until 30th of September 2022.
Without forgetting the diachronic and historical perspective, which is important for understanding the phenomena of circulation and influence of the Molieresque work, this colloquium intends to take a new look at the current international framework of appropriation and interpretation of Molière around the following axes: Molière in the repertoires of the national theatres, companies and theater festivals in the 20th and 21st centuries (traditions and innovations); Molière in the practice of university and school theatre (models); Molière between publishers and theatre companies (circulation of originals, translations, adaptations and rewritings); Molière among illustrators (iconography and representations); Molière in relation to other artistic languages (cinema, television; radio theatre and comics); dramaturgy, myths, values and lessons from Molière; interpreting and staging Molière today.
The colloquium will bring the keynote speakers Gilles Declercq (Sorbonne Nouvelle), Martial Poirson (Sorbonne Université), Brigitte Prost (Université de Franche-Comté) and Francisco Lafarga (University of Barcelona).
La fortune de Molière: répertoires, mythes et interprétations is organized by CIAC (University of the Algarve) and by CEL – Center for Studies in Letters (University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro), in collaboration with CET – Center for Theatre Studies (University of Lisbon) and APEF – Portuguese Association of French Studies, under the aegis of the French Institute of Portugal and the Lethes Theatre, in Faro.
