CIAC / UAB CO-ORGANIZES THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE KUI 2023

Between 28 and 29 September 2023, the CIAC hub of the Open University of Lisbon, the INKA Research Group of the University of Applied Sciences of Berlin (HTW), and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon promote the KUI 2023-XX International Conference on Culture and Computer Science, in Lisbon. Under the theme “Code and Materiality”, the event focuses on the bridges between physicality and virtuality in culture, the arts, and engineering. The call for papers is open until 21 May 2023.

 KUI 2023 aims to reflect on examples of best practices; challenges and future trends in the fields of physical and virtual spaces; mixed, extended, augmented, and virtual reality; hybrid systems; 3D technology; data collection and management; media integration, modelling, visualization, and interaction. The conference is aimed at professionals from cultural and creative industries, art and Culture, media and communication researchers, as well as engineers and computer researchers focused on cultural topics.

This edition welcomed papers addressing the following topics: physical and virtual spaces, especially hybrid spaces; code and materiality; Mixed Reality systems, augmented reality, augmented virtuality and virtual reality, applications, and technologies; hybrid applications; analog and digital exhibition design; collections-Exploration, design, Exhibition and transport; cultural heritage (tangible and intangible); the influence of art and Culture on future technical developments and vice versa; interdependence between culture and Computer Science; Human-Computer Interaction; intuitive use of media systems; natural user; sketching; simulation of cultural sites (acoustic, visual, and material); machine learning for cultural applications; cultural techniques; Ethics in culture and informatics.

Other topics include: technologies for physical and virtual spaces; 3D technologies; digitization in the cultural and creative industries; visualization and interaction technologies; interactive multimedia solutions for museums, theaters, concert halls, exhibitions etc.; collaboration in physical and virtual spaces; digital exhibitions, science centers, museums, and galleries; virtual reconstructions; location-based and context-sensitive services in a cultural context; documentation, visualization, and interaction in museums and Archives; digital and hybrid storytelling.

Papers will be published in the conference proceedings book, which will be submitted to Scopus indexing.
