BRUNO MENDES DA SILVA AT THE INTERACTIVE FILM AND MEDIA CONFERENCE 2021

Between 5th and 7th August 2021, the CIAC vice-coordinator, Bruno Mendes da Silva, participates in Interactive Film and Media Conference 2021: New Narratives, Racialization, Global Crises and Social Engagement, presenting “The Forking Paths – Interactive Films: From Basic Interaction Models to Full Interactive Experience”. The conference, which will take place online, is organized by Ryerson University (Canada), The Glasgow School of Art (Scotland), University of São Paulo (Brazil) and the University of Texas (USA).

Based on The Forking Paths project, the article “The Forking Paths – Interactive Films: From Basic Interaction Models to Full Interactive Experience” analyzes the different models and levels of filmic interactivity and looks for evidence of possible paths for the evolution of audiovisual language. Despite the new interaction proposals being increasingly technologically advanced, using sensors, virtual reality or other interfaces, the viewer is still confined to pre-produced content. Is there really interactivity between the viewer and the interactive film?

Dedicated to the development, analysis and investigation process of the digital experience, the Interactive Film and Media Conference 2021 brings together researchers and professionals from different fields to establish an interdisciplinary research structure on contemporary narratives. Based on storytelling practices that are transforming our view of the contemporary world (in visual arts, cinema, digital/graphic/interactive narratives, virtual reality or games), it is intended to assess the saturation and fragmentation of the media during the last year’s pandemic experience; and discuss new media interactivities in the virtual environment.
