INTERNATIONAL EVENT
CIAC IS PRESENT AT THE INTERNATIONAL EVENT “PANORAMAS 2021”
Artist Inês Regina presents “Rejeitorio: an interactive video installation about the recent human impact on the São Francisco River” at the international event Panoramas 2021. The article, also signed by CIAC researchers Bruno Mendes da Silva and Gabriela Borges, presents conceptual and aesthetic discussions related to “Rejeitorio” (2019), an interactive video installation in the context of digital media authored by the artist. The 2021 edition takes place at the Universität Politècnica de València (Spain) and the communication takes place today (15 June), at 20:30 (Lisbon time), at Table 8 – Instalaciones (online).
“Rejeitorio” has as its theme the likely environmental consequences of the proliferation of toxic sludge in the São Francisco River (a tributary of the Paraopeba River), derived from the disaster of the Brumadinho dam. Living in one of the cities bathed by the São Francisco (Juazeiro da Bahia, Brazil), the artist Inês Regina expresses the fears of the local people in relation to the possible destruction of the river. In the work, different 2D animations are displayed according to the absence or presence of the audience, leading them to reflect on how recent human actions can contribute to the death of the river and, consequently, of the fauna and flora. The aesthetics of the videos present in “Rejeitorio” refer to the colored woodcuts on the covers of twine, widely sold in the cities of Juazeiro and Petrolina.
Panoramas 2021 brings together three international events in the arts, media, technology and culture scenarios: SIIMI – VIII International Symposium on Innovation in Interactive Media, #20.ART – 20th International Meeting of Art and Technology and BunB – 8vo. Balance-Unbalance. These events come together to establish an overview of the state of the art of research and social technologies that are geared towards sustainability, the arts and digital culture.
Organized by the Universität Politècnica de València (Spain), the Media Lab/BR Network (UFG, UnB, Unifesspa and PUC-Campinas), and Balance-Unbalance (the BunB international network), in digital and face-to-face format, the event includes conferences, communications, panels, workshops and an art exhibition.
