CIAC researcher Adérito Fernandes-Marcos – through USJ, University of São José (Macau), where he is a Full Professor – takes part in an international and multidisciplinary project to fight against famine promoted by the National Institute of Science and Technology to Fight Famine, soon to be created in Brazil and based at the University of São Paulo (USP).
“Combating Hunger: strategies and public policies for the recognition of the human right to adequate food – A transdisciplinary approach to Food Systems supported by Artificial Intelligence” is a 5-year project funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Brazil) under the coordination of professor and scientist Dirce Maria Lobo Marchioni (Faculty of Public Health, USP).
This project involves an international consortium of more than 30 specialists from several fields and more than two dozen international universities and faculties and is organized into five lines of research: health and nutrition; public policies; value chain; artificial intelligence; and communication. The participation of USJ/Faculty of Arts and Humanities is part of the communications field and, more specifically, within the scope of scientific dissemination. The parameters of the praxis of media communication will be worked on as a field of research focused on scientific diffusion.
To Adérito Fernandes Marcos, who leads the project at USJ, the intention is to “verify, deepen, study and apply different media resources to address the issue of food safety. We will create a web radio to aggregate poles in the different Portuguese-speaking countries and territories: Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, Macau, Brazil, and Portugal. Composed of students and teachers, this radio station will focus on scientific dissemination in general, including the issues of nutrition and fighting famine.
The project consortium includes the State University of Campinas, the Federal University of São Paulo, the Federal University of São Carlos, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, the Federal University of São João del-Rei, the Federal University of Fluminense (Brazil), the University of São José (Macau), the University of Toronto (Canada), the University of Newcastle (England), and the Universities of Lisbon and Porto (Portugal).
