INTERVIEW

MIRIAN TAVARES IS ONE OF THE INTERVIEWEES FOR “UALG WOMEN,” THE LATEST ISSUE OF UALGZINE
Under the theme “UAlg Women,” the latest (January 2023) issue of UALGzine presents the path of 25 women who made history at the University of Algarve. Mirian Tavares (CIAC coordinator) is included among former and current students, employees, researchers, and professors.
Mirian Tavares is an associate professor and has directed undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees (such as the Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts (of which she is currently vice-director) and Artistic Studies; the master’s and doctoral degrees in Communication, Culture, and Arts; the master’s degree in Cultural Management and the Doctorate in Digital Media-Art, which she still coordinates). She was the director of the Department and has previously been the director of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCHS). Teaching is, for her, a great passion. She has never felt contested by the positions she has held but believes society still has a long way to go. Among many outstanding moments in her career path, she highlights creating the Degree in Visual Arts, as well as founding CIAC.
This issue of UAlgzine sets the spotlight on women in academia in the same year that UAlg published the inclusive gender equality plan. They talk about their ”stories,” the challenges women face nowadays, the people who inspired them, and their paths at the University of Algarve.
