NEW PUBLICATION

CREATOUR PROJECT BOOK INCLUDES ARTICLE BY MIRIAN TAVARES
The article “Creative experiences reveal secrets of a different kind of tourism in the Algarve”, by Mirian Tavares (CIAC coordinator), co-authored by Sónia Moreira Cabeça, Alexandra Rodrigues Gonçalves and João Filipe Marques, was recently published in the book Creatour: catalysing creative tourism in small towns and rural areas. The book is published by Coimbra University Press and coordinated by Nancy Duxbury and Sílvia Silva.
Creatour: catalyzing creative tourism in small towns and rural areas documents the research and development phase of CREATOUR, a multidisciplinary action-research project that has been encouraging experimental practices and pilot tests for the understanding of issues related to creative tourism and its potential in Portugal. This book presents about 40 pilot projects.
In “Creative Experiences Reveal Secrets of a Different Algarve Tourism”, the Algarve’s tourism performance is analyzed; the region’s economic, social, demographic and tourism imbalances are reflected upon; and a balance is made of the CREATOUR experiences and pilot projects implemented in the Algarve. These projects have assumed themselves as an alternative network to the “sun and sea” tourism, by valuing, preserving and recovering the heritage, history, culture, arts and traditional Algarvian crafts.
Funded by FCT and co-funded by FEDER, CREATOUR involved five research centers and 30 researchers: Center for Social Studies (CES), from the University of Coimbra; Landscape, Heritage and Territory Laboratory (Lab2PT), from the University of Minho; Interdisciplinary Centre for History, Cultures and Societies (CIDEHUS), from the University of Évora; Centre for Research on Space and Organizations (CIEO), from the University of Algarve; and Centre for Studies on Socioeconomic Change and Territory (DINÂMIA’CET), from ISCTE-IUL.
