ARTICLE BY CIAC RESEARCHER PUBLISHED IN SCRIPTA JOURNAL

Scripta Journal recently published the article “Imani – “a shadow without a body” The Emperor’s Sands” written by CIAC collaborator José Paulo Pereira in the dossier “Readings, rereadings and misreadings“(Vol.26, Nº56).

The paper examines both the injunctions of patriarchal power, deeply rooted in the cultural tradition of the VaChopi people, to which the narrator of the Sands of the Emperor originally belongs. They are especially due to the fact that Imani then finds herself between two different traditions: that of her original culture and the one of the Western world – which comes to her through the teachings of Portuguese Indian missionary Rudolfo Fernandes.
