NEW PUBLICATION

PAPER BY ADRIANA NOGUEIRA PUBLISHED IN BOOK BY THE UNIVERSITY OF COIMBRA 

The article “Echoes of antiquity in contemporary Portuguese poetry: Ulysses Plurais-Memórias Míticas”, written by CIAC researcher Adriana Nogueira, was recently published in the book Miscellaneous Studies in honor of Maria de Fátima Sousa e Silva, from the Center for Classical and Humanistic Studies of the University of Coimbra.

Poems treated in this paper are centered on Ulysses (“Ulysses” by Jorge de Sousa Braga; “Litainha de Ulisses” by Nuno Júdice; “the gaze of Ulysses” by Bernardo Pinto de Almeida). The researcher reflects on its great reception in contemporary Portuguese poetry, and the plurality of the hero as one of the factors for the adaptability of the myth; underlines his importance in national mythology; evokes various memories, whether from childhood, musical, cinematographic, political, or religious.

The publication Miscellany of studies in honor of Maria de Fátima Sousa e Silva brings together studies in the fields of Greek and Latin literature, culture, philosophy, art, Linguistics, Late Antiquity, Middle Ages, Humanism, reception of the classics, and contemporary Portuguese literature.
