RESEARCH VISIT

CIAC HOSTS INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH VISITORS FROM SLOVAKIA

CIAC is currently hosting two research visitors from the University of Constantine the Philosopher, in Nitra (Slovakia). PhD students Nela Helena Androsch and Klára Masařová are visiting the University of the Algarve for a short-term Erasmus internship from 23 June to 05 July 2023. The researchers, mother and daughter, are joined by Nela’s 7-month-old son, Matthias – CIAC’s youngest research visitor to date.

With this visit, Nela and Klára aim to extend their knowledge regarding their research interests as a preparation for their thesis defense. They also plan to research in the context of publishing activities using CIAC/UAlg library resources and the databases of the University of the Algarve, to expand their own research and enrich it with the knowledge acquired in the course of research at another European university. Nela and Klára are glad to have gotten in contact with the work of CIAC researchers Mirian Nogueira Tavares and Gabriela Borges in the field of communication, which will surely enrich their own research.

Nela Helena Androsch, M.A., M.A. studied at the University of Vienna, where she completed Master’s degrees in Transcultural Communication/Interpreting and International Development. Both of her Master’s thesis dealt with socio-politically relevant topics. Since 2019, she has been a PhD student at the University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra (Slovakia) in the field of Marketing Communication and Advertising.

Her dissertation thesis and research work focus on rituals, narratives, storytelling in transcultural marketing and marketing communication using methods and approaches of social and cultural anthropology. Her interest in storytelling is also based on her professional work as an eLearning consultant (Head of International Coordination and Languages), in which both storytelling and marketing are ubiquitous. She further works as a translator and court interpreter for the Czech language in Austria.

PhDr. Klára Masařová graduated from Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín, Faculty of Multimedia Communication in the field of marketing communication. She wrote her thesis on the topic of arranging window displays – a specific communication skill. In 2013, she passed the state examination at PEVŠ in Bratislava, Faculty of Mass Media. The topic of her doctoral thesis was the description of the current state of billboards in the Czech Republic, and it was published in an enhanced version as a printed monography and an e-book for students. Since 2019, she has been a PhD student at the University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra (Slovakia) in the field of Marketing Communication and Advertising. In her research, she focuses on the material and conceptual boundaries of the visual field of the adverfact, on the role of this genre in representation in the broader context. In her professional life, she works as a lecturer.
