RETIRO DMAD RETURNS TO PRESENTIAL FORMAT BETWEEN 11TH AND 15TH JULY

Between the 11th and 15th of July 2022, CIAC, the University of Algarve and the Aberta University promote the 9th Doctoral Retreat in Digital Media-Art (Retiro DMAD 2022), at the Convento do Espírito Santo, in Loulé. After a two-year break, the event returns to face-to-face format under the motto of the elements earth, water and spirit and with a program that includes the participation of artists, teachers and researchers.

The artist Miguel Carvalhais takes over the opening conference (“Estética (do) Artificial: o Computacional e o Anti-Computacional na Arte” [Aesthetics (of) Artificial: the Computational and the Anti-Computational in Art]), the researcher Tony Brooks the closing conference (“In conversation with Tony Brooks”) and, throughout the week, DMAD professors (University of Algarve and Aberta Universidade) give masterclasses and workshops.

The Retiro DMAD 2022 program also includes the round table, mediated by Dália Paulo (Loulé City Council) and with Algarve artists Bertílio Martins, Vasco Célio and Miguel Cheta, about the exhibition on display at the Galeria de Arte Municipal (Convento do Espírito Santo); the talk with CIAC coordinator Mirian Tavares, at Casa do Meio Dia (Livraria Sul, Sol e Sal); and the exhibition [IN]TANGIBILIDADES DIGITAIS [Digital Intangibilities], curated collaboratively by students of the Curatorship and Digital Artistic Intervention Curricular Unit, coordinated by CIAC researcher Pedro Alves da Veiga.

Retiro DMAD is a space for reflection and debate, with strong dialogue with the regional, national and international community. This event has the support of the Municipality of Loulé, the Zer0 Museum and Casa do Meio Dia, and is financed by FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, under the project UIDB/04019/2020.
