SÍLVIA VIEGAS PARTICIPATES IN THE SEMINAR “MORE THAN HOUSES” AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO

On 28 April 2023, at 15h00, CIAC researcher Sílvia Viegas participates in the seminar More than Houses as moderator. The session, organized by FAUP – Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, plans several multidisciplinary contributions that seek to build broad and complex perspectives of contemporary Portuguese society, contextualizing the launch of the challenge Schools “more than homes / April 2074”.

This initiative aims to bring together Portuguese schools of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Fine Arts to debate critical and propositional reflection on the contemporary challenges of Housing and public space in constructing an intercultural society and promoting global citizenship. It proposes that schools, in the 2023-2024 academic year, unite to debate housing issues and contribute with proposals through the development of research and projects on different subjects of the courses.

Silvia Viegas is the author of “Access to housing, migrations and spatial configurations“, one of the seven synthesis texts of the program More than Houses / April 2074 intends to foster debate on issues that urgently need to be reflected nowadays in terms of housing and the city for all.

The program, designed by curators Teresa Novais and Luís Tavares, begins in April 2023 and runs until the end of 2024, with an important focus on the memory of the experience of housing programs that took place immediately after 25 April 1974 (namely the local Outpatient Support Service-SAAL). In addition, the seminar reflects on future contributions of the program, 100 years after 25 April.
