CIAC and FCHS promote Seminar The War Next Door

The Seminar “The War Next Door: Portugal and 80 years of the Spanish Civil War”, promoted by CIAC and the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences and organised by the professors and researchers Maria Infante do Carmo and Olivia Novoa Fernández, will take place on November 28 & 29. The first session, on November 28, will take place at 2:00 p.m., in room 2.34 of Building 1, on Gambelas Campus. On November 29, the seminar will take place at 10:00 a.m., in room 1.37 of the same building.

This seminar, organised on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, is intended for students of Spanish language and culture and interested members of the public, within or outside the University of the Algarve. It will focus on relations between Portugal and this major historical fact of the 20th century. It will the shine the light on evidence of literary, journalistic and cinematographic treatment of the conflict in the Iberian context, including cultural and political topics, such as propaganda, censorship and the construction of historical memory.
