SYMPOSIUM

RESEARCHER GABRIELA BORGES PARTICIPATES IN SYMPOSIUM ‘MEDIA, VIOLENCE AND ALTERITY’
O Symposium Media, Violence and Alterity takes place online on October 20. The event has the participation of CIAC researcher Gabriela Borges, who is responsible for the opening conference.
In the face of the reality that is presented to us daily, the conference proposes an observation of how media, violence, and alterity (or the absence of the experience of alterity) are deeply related. Social networks, which were once created with the purpose of providing greater connection between people, have come to reinforce a consumer culture and a narcissistic culture, both interconnected. In addition, in recent years, there has been an explosion of hate speech directed at the most diverse groups and minorities.
The purpose of this symposium is to bring up a reflection: how can Media Production give visibility to these groups in a responsible way, so that society begins to respond to these challenges through the construction of spaces for coexistence with differences?
The event is organized by the Post-Graduate Program in Communication and Culture (UNISO – University of Sorocaba, Brazil), with the support of CAPES – Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Brazilian Federal Government).
The event is free upon registration (here).
