JULIANA WEXEL RECEIVES THE “BEST OVERALL PRESENTATION” AWARD AT ICOAH 2023

Juliana Wexel, FCT-CIAC Research Fellow and PhD student in Digital Media-Art (DMAD-CIAC) received the “Best Overall Presentation” Award at the 10th International Conference on Arts and Humanities 2023 – Collaborative Process, Cooperation, and Multiplicity, with the communication “Aesthetic Reflections on Artificial Intelligence in Video Art: report on the creation of Ciberperformance Aretusa Vox”.

ICOAH took place from 7 to 8 September in Bangkok, Thailand, bringing together investigations and case studies from around the world in parallel sessions, with the participation of more than 50 academics, researchers, activists, industry leaders and professionals from more than 25 countries and more than 35 different universities around the world.

During the event, Juliana Wexel shared the experience of creating video art “squirt.Metamorphosis”, created with the online software Stable Diffusion, which integrates the digital artefact Arethusa Vox.

Aretusa Vox was created within the scope of CyPet Project and is one of the computational projects created as part of Juliana Wexel’s ongoing thesis “Vulva Art and cyberperformativity: contributions to the understanding of feminist aesthetic discourses in digital media-art”.

The presentation offered reflections on aesthetic issues in the use of artificial intelligence resources in pioneering processes of production of artistic images for video art. The discussion sparks the debate on the collaborative processes of creation between man-machine in the field of digital media art and the emergence of AI Art (Artificial Intelligence Art).

The communication, co-authored by Mirian Tavares (advisor) and Bruno Mendes da Silva (co-advisor), project supervisors, was presented on September 8, during the panel “TECHNICAL SESSION 10-ART AND TECHNOLOGY III”, which was mediated by Dr. Rajani Jairam JAIN (Deemed to be University, India).

ICOAH 2023 was organized by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka and had CIAC’s support.
