TREM GALLERY EXHIBITION

TREM GALLERY HOSTS THE EXHIBITION “YOU WANT IT DARKER” BY FERNANDO AMARO
On the 3rd of November, at 6pm, the exhibition You Want It Darker, by Fernando Amaro, opens at Trem Gallery, in Faro. On show until January 31, 2022, the exhibition seeks to reflect on the strange, inhuman and absurd side of the world.
You Want It Darker is the result of a journey of recognition, in the polysemic sense of the term. The exhibition borrows its name from Leonard Cohen’s fourteenth studio album, released 17 days before the Canadian singer-songwriter’s death. The theme of the album centers on death, darkness, and God, with humor mixed in. The present works also allude to that darkness, suffering, persecution, injustice, existential doubts, and absurdity.
Based on (re)readings of Bernardo Soares’ Livro do Desassossego, Albert Camus’ A Peste e O Mito de Sísifo, and the (re)visitation of Beckett, Arrabal, Ionesco, Vian, Buñuel, and philosophers such as Nietzsche, the artist Fernando Amaro inquires about the world, this increasingly strange and inhuman place. With detours and deviations from the course initially foreseen, You Want It Darker presents a sea of doubts and ambiguities, of restlessness and startles.
This exhibition, with free admission, is part of the program of the Visual Arts course of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve for the Trem Gallery, with the support of CIAC, FCT and the Faro City Council/Museu Municipal de Faro.
