C.ATARINA FIGUEIREDO AND RITA BORRALHO SILVA ARE THE GUEST SPEAKERS FOR THE NEW EDITION OF THE VISUAL ARTS CYCLE

On 8 March 2023, at 16h00, The University of Algarve hosts a lecture by artists C.atarina Figueiredo and Rita Borralho Silva as part of a new edition of the Visual Arts Cycle. The session takes place at Amphitheater 0.5 of the pedagogical complex of Campus Penha, and admission is free of charge.

C. atarina Figueiredo holds a degree in Visual Arts from the University of Algarve and an MA in Contemporary Art Practice from ECA – University of Edinburgh. A self-proclaimed eclectic artist, most of her pieces come from a place of fascination with myth, mystery, liminality, and the marvelous. She works through drawing and painting because these are the safe spaces where she deciphers imaginary and subjective landscapes. In these, she seeks an animistic response to the so-called “Disenchanted Western world” and portrays a nomadic sense of the flow of this reality and its wandering transformation. C.atarina also works with video.

Rita Borralho Silva has a degree in Fine Arts from the Higher School of Arts and Design (ESAD.cr) and completed her final year of studies in Poznan, Poland, where she studied Intermedia at Uniwersytet Artystyczny im. Magdaleny Ab-akanowicz (UAP), as part of the Erasmus program. In 2018, she completed the 4QRQ level specialization in Artistic Production – Plastic Realization of Spectacle at Arts School António Arroio (Lisbon, Portugal). A multidisciplinary artist, she is a poet, researcher, and performer: her practice arises from a poetic approach to language, sound, and symbol, revealed in a series of actions, choreographies, and performative readings.
Promoted by CIAC and FCT, the Visual Arts Cycle is organized by the Visual Arts degree of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, University of Algarve.
