MIRIAN TAVARES IS THE NEXT GUEST SPEAKER OF THE VISUAL ARTS CYCLE

On 22 March 2023, at 16h00, CIAC and the University of Algarve will promote a lecture with Mirian Tavares. The session is part of the Visual Arts Cycle and takes place at Amphitheatre 0.6 of the Pedagogical Complex – Campus Penha. Admission is free of charge.

Mirian Tavares will share her experience as an exhibitions curator and her approach to writing about artists and their works. Mirian holds a Ph.D. in Contemporary Communication and Culture from the Federal University of Bahia, coordinates CIAC – Center for Research in Arts and Communication, and is a Professor with Aggregation at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, University of Algarve. Likewise, Mirian directs the Ph.D. in Digital Media-Art, taught in partnership between the University of Algarve and The Open University of Lisbon; At the international level, she is the vice-president of the International Association of Computational Art – ARTECH-Int, which she joints with other important roles at the national level. She is a member of the team of curators of the Portuguese network of Contemporary Art and Director of Rotura-Revista de Comunicação, Cultura e Artes. She has been involved in more than 25 scientific projects, taking in many of them the role of general coordination and/or institutional coordination.

Mirian took part, by invitation, in more than 100 national and international conferences, accounting for more than 60 articles published in distinguished journals. As a result of her intense scientific activity, she has published 17 books and 56 chapters of renowned works in her field of study. In total, more than 50 masters, doctors, and postdocs defended their thesis under her guidance. Mirian Tavares also regularly participates in several cultural publications and in the production of texts and artistic catalogs, having coordinated and conceptually developed a set of unpublished web series with the intent to disseminate science (CIAC Talks and CIAC Talks initiative).

Her most recent fields of research are Communication, Digital Media-Art, Cinema, Visual Arts, and Culture and Arts.
