Visual Arts Cycle

On Thursday, 20th May, the University of Algarve will host the third session of the Visual Arts Cycle 2021 with guest speaker Fátima Marques Pereira. Among many other activities in her professional career, Fátima Marques Pereira was the Director of ARQUIPÉLAGO – Center for Contemporary Arts, in the Azores, and the General Sub-Director of Cultural Heritage, under the Portuguese Ministry of Culture.
The lecture will take place between 5:00pm and 6:30pm, via zoom platform. Admission is free for students of the Degree in Visual Arts and for other interested parties, under registration to the email abarata@ualg.pt to receive the respective link.
The Visual Arts Cycle is organized by the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve and promoted by CIAC and the Foundation for Science and Technology.
About the speaker:
Fátima Marques Pereira has made her journey in the context of culture, cultural management and contemporary art. She has held management functions at the Ministry of Culture, first as General Deputy Director of the Arts and, more recently, Deputy Director of Cultural Heritage. Among these positions that bring culture and politics together, she was also Director of ARQUIPÉLAGO – Center for Contemporary Arts, on the island of S. Miguel, in the Azores Archipelago, under the responsibility of the Regional Directorate for Culture of the Azores. Curators and contemporary artists from all over the world passed through, in a cultural dynamic that began in 2015 and continued until 2020.
Fátima Marques Pereira, who has a degree in History, was also a Professor in higher education at ESAP – Superior Artistic School of Porto, where she was one of the creators of the Degree in Cultural Management, and at ESMAE – Superior School of Music, Arts and Entertainment of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto.
Specialist in cultural project management, an area where she has been providing training, planning and implementing cultural, artistic and social responsibility projects, she is also the author of several articles published in the fields of photography and contemporary art and culture.
She participated in juries of contemporary art competitions and in open calls for national and international artistic residencies, events where contemporary art has a significant space for creation.
