COLLOQUIUM

ARMANDO NASCIMENTO ROSA TAKES PART IN COLLOQUIUM COMMEMORATING THE CENTENARY OF NATALIA CORREIA
On 15 March 2023, CIAC researcher Armando Nascimento Rosa will participate as a guest speaker at Colloquium Commemorating the Centenary of Natalia Correia. Promoted by the City Council of Ponta Delgada and the Natalia Correia Study Center, the event takes place at Center headquarters between 14 and 16 March, 2023.
Armando Nascimento Rosa presents the communication “Natália Correia dramaturga: a paixão à razão do rito cenico”. The creation written for theater occupies a central place in the work of Natália Correia and is present constantly throughout her career as a writer, since the composition, in 1952, of the play in four acts Sucubine or the Hat Theory, with the collaboration of Manuel De Lima, until his last dramatic text, in choral format, which death prevented him from completing, and which is given by the title of the opening words of the manuscript: Falote from the far west of a Europe kidnapped by steel and coal. In addition to the fascination that the poetic word induces, Natalia’s dramaturgy manifests a desire for formal experimentation combined with the exercise of critical thinking, which in the language of the scene claims the space par excellence to communicate. In anticipation of the publication of his complete dramatic work (by INCM), the researcher intends, in this communication, to focus on the reasons for Natalia’s passion for the secular rites of scenic creation.
Writer-poet, essayist, translator, journalist, and lecturer, Natalia Correia was one of the most cultured and competent voices of Portuguese literature in the second half of the twentieth century.
