ESEC AND CIAC PROMOTE SEMINAR ON THE COLLECTION OF FILM POSTERS OF THE MUNICIPAL MUSEUM OF FARO
On 11 May 2023, at 14h30, CIAC and The Higher School of Education and Communication (ESEC) of the University of Algarve promote the seminar The Collection of Posters by Joaquim António Viegas at the Municipal Museum of Faro, with Jorge Carrega (CIAC researcher). Organized as part of the discipline of History of the Media, in the degree in Communication Sciences, the session will be moderated by Professor Ana Filipa Martins and will take place at the University of Algarve – Campus Penha, Amphitheater 0.5.
The collection of Joaquim António Viegas, maintained by the Municipal Museum of Farom, includes circa 330 posters. Dating from the late nineteenth century to the 1930s, these posters advertised film screenings, shows, and advertising. The research group on film studies has been promoting exhibitions and publishing catalogues. In this session, guest speaker Jorge Carrega presents some examples of the posters in the exhibition and addresses the relevance of these posters from a historical and cultural point of view.
Jorge Carrega holds a PhD in Communication, Culture and Arts (UAlg, 2014). Since 2011, he has been lecturing in disciplines related to the history of Cinema at the University of Algarve He is currently a member of CIAC’s Scientific Council, where he coordinates the Working Group on Film Studies.
The Communication Sciences Seminars are an initiative that has been developing in recent years, in connection with professionals and the community. The sessions are promoted by the researchers of CIAC’s Research Group on Communication Sciences, professors in The Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Master’s Degree in Communication and Digital Media of ESEC-UAlg.
Throughout the school year 2022-23, it will address topics related to Communication Sciences; ranging from journalism to strategic communication, from media analysis and production to media literacy.
