EXHIBITION AT GALLERY TREM

GALLERY TREM HOSTS EXHIBITION “A PASSAGEM” BY XANA
The opening of the exhibition A Passagem [The Passage], by CIAC researcher Xana (Alexandre Barata), takes place on 27 April 2023, at 18h00, at Gallery Trem, in Faro. On display until 17 June 2023, this exhibition brings together 50 drawings in china ink and acrylic on paper and exhibits some unpublished works the artist created between 2020 and 2023.
A Passagem exhibits drawings created as part of the project of public art intervention “Portal X001” (at Jardim Manuel Bivar for the Open Studios 2022) and other drawings selected from fruitful research that Xana has carried out in recent years. The arrangement of this set of works presents an eminently visual and abstract narrative that will add, as it is characteristic of this creator, new signs to the visual alphabet that is being expanded with each new work.
As a visual artist, he has held several exhibitions, scenographies and interventions in public spaces. In 2005, Culturgest presented an anthological selection of his works titled Arte Opaca e Outros Fantasmas (curated by Alexandre Pomar and Lúcia Marques). In the last ten years, the design and creation of temporary public art installations/constructions have been highlighted in his career: “Arc de Triomphe” (2009), “Assembly” (2010), “New Assembly and some prostheses” (2012), “a house in the sky” (2012), “Amor Libera Lux” (2013), “the nature of the movement” (2017), “chiaroscuro Libera” (2018), “Labyrinth x002” (2019), “oleb, felcia and lbrd” (2021), “Liber/structures to build” (2022), among others.
Xana has had his works exhibited in several museums and public collections, namely: Serralves Museum (Porto); Kunstlerhaus-Musonturm (Frankfurt); MAAT – Museum of Art Architecture and Technology, Luso-American Foundation and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Moderna Art Center (Lisbon).
The exhibition is organized as part of the program of the Visual Arts course, from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve for Gallery Trem, with the support of CIAC, FCT and the City Council of Faro/Municipal Museum of Faro.
